Published in 2021, this Ali Hazelwood bestseller has made its mark on contemporary romance fans with its blend of humor, science and sentiment. The announcement of its film adaptation has set networks ablaze, especially since the casting has been confirmed.
It’s now official: Lili Reinhart, revealed by the series Riverdale, will play Olive Smith, a brilliant doctoral student embroiled in a false relationship with a strict professor. Opposite her, Tom Bateman will lend his features to Adam Carlsen, a researcher as feared as he is enigmatic. A dynamic that promises to sparkle.
A film between laboratory and love at first sight
The story follows a familiar pattern: two protagonists pretend to be a couple for strategic reasons. But under microscopes and university lectures, feelings intrude. What few viewers know is that The Love Hypothesis is based on Star Wars fan fiction! The original work, entitled Head Over Feet, featured a duo inspired by Rey and Kylo Ren. Ironically, Tom Bateman is the husband of Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey on screen. An amusing wink for long-time fans.
In Paris too, the Hazelwood phenomenon takes hold
The Hazelwood wave is not sparing the capital: the novel is regularly featured in the romance sections of bookshops such as Gibert Joseph and La Librairie de Paris. It also features in several Paris Select online selections of must-read summer novels. It’s a safe bet that the film adaptation will also be given special screenings in Paris cinemas when it is released.
