Marcel Proust in the spotlight this autumn at Hôtel Littéraire Le Swann
The Hôtel Littéraire Le Swann dedicates its autumn season to Marcel Proust, with a double exhibition and four new literary events.
A sensitive tribute to the writer of memory

Jacques-Emile Blanche,
Located in the heart of the 8ᵉ arrondissement,Hôtel Littéraire Le Swann pays tribute to the author ofÀ la recherche du temps perdu with two complementary exhibitions. An opportunity to (re)discover Proust not only as a writer, but also as an epistolier, a man of the world and an ever-influential figure for contemporary creation. By bringing together rare manuscripts and giving the floor to specialists, the hotel becomes, for the duration of an autumn, a Proustian house where letters, memories and artistic resonances dialogue with elegance.
Proust’s correspondence: intimate, unpublished letters

From October 9 to November 21, 2025, the hotel’s showcases will unveil an exceptional selection of autograph letters, most of them previously unpublished. These manuscripts, assembled by Jacques Letertre, president of the Société des Hôtels Littéraires, cover the period from 1886, when Proust was just fourteen, to 1921.
These missives, addressed to a gallery of recipients ranging from critic Jean-Louis Vaudoyer to playwright Henry Bernstein, not forgetting the Countess de Chevigné and the sultry Albert Le Cuziat, reveal a Proust who was by turns intimate, worldly, ironic and career-minded. We come across confidences about his stock market woes, reflections on Paul Valéry, the genesis of
Four literary events at the Hôtel Swann

The program is enriched by four evenings organized with theAssociation des Amis de Marcel Proust at the Hôtel Swann.
- October 9: “Proust and his publishers” conference with Pascal Fouché and Nicolas Ragonneau, based on unpublished correspondence with Bernard Grasset and Gaston Gallimard.
- October 22: prize-giving ceremony for the Proustian reading and pastiche competitions, followed by the award of a painting by Lucas del Baldo to the association.
- November 12: reading of the correspondence between Proust and Geneviève Straus by actor Ivan Morane, accompanied by a vernissage of sculptures by Marlène Burget.
- November 20: lecture by Emily Eells on the links between Proust and the painter John Singer Sargent, echoing the Éblouir Paris exhibition at the Musée d’Orsay.
Proust between heritage and contemporary resonance

These events, which combine precious archives with current creations, underline the extent to which Proust remains an interlocutor for our time. His world, both intimate and worldly, continues to nourish artistic, literary and visual reflection. The Hôtel Littéraire Le Swann thus offers much more than an exhibition: it’s a living space where yesterday’s readers meet today’s artists.
