For the evening of December 31st, the restaurant Pertinence promises an intimate, refined New Year’s Eve in one of Paris’ most elegant districts. A rare opportunity to enjoy a gourmet, intimate dinner for just a few lucky guests, a stone’s throw from the illuminated Eiffel Tower.

Behind the large bay window on rue de l’Exposition, the room resembles a light cocoon: wooden slats, cream-colored drapes, just a few tables, laid with almost jewel-like care. We whisper more than we talk, glasses clink gently, light glides over plates. Here, everything is a matter of measure. It’s an atmosphere that reflects the owners: Ryunosuke Naito and Kwen Liew, a Franco-Japanese-Malaysian duo trained in the top Parisian establishments and awarded a Michelin star in 2018.

A philosophy of precision and perfection

At Pertinence, French haute cuisine is infused with Asian flair, without ever losing its classic structure. The two chefs have chosen to work on a human scale: a handful of place settings, meticulous service, extreme attention to every detail, from cooking to the rhythm of the meal. You can feel their exacting standards in the juices, in the long-reduced sauces, in the precision of the dressings. Everything seems simple… but nothing really is.
For New Years Eve in Paris, their menu promises to be a very personal stroll through their repertoire, designed for a festive dinner where you take your time, far from the hustle and bustle of the capital’s big brasseries.

A New Year’s Eve menu in six parts, like a score

The meal opens gently with three fingertip canapés, perfect with a first glass of champagne: a foie gras tartlet with Japanese plum jelly, a warm Gruyère cheese gougère and a Bellota ham cromesquis with a runny heart.

Then comes theamuse-bouche, with its gentle vegetal flavors: Jerusalem artichoke cream topped with a cappuccino-style mousse, sprinkled with black truffles. A warming mouthful, both silky and deep.

Theappetizer features a festive take on the sea: scallops, broccolini, watercress, kaffir lime sauce, avocado cream and black truffle make up a plate that’s iodized, green and highly refined.

The second entree is more luxurious, but still very delicate: blue lobster, topped with a champagne sauce and escorted by caviar. A festive dish, but well-balanced, without heaviness.

On the fish side, the chefs play on contrasts between classicism and far-off flavors: turbot, cockles and cauliflower converse with a laksa sauce and coconut emulsion. A nod to Asia, perfectly integrated into the French style of the house.

For the meat, we offer an exceptional piece: Nagano Wagyu, served with a fine celeriac tart with black truffle, trumpet of death and truffle sauce. A deep, almost comforting dish, yet one of great precision.

The final dessert is like a series of gourmet stations: a plate of exotic fruits for freshness, a chestnut/chocolate tart for indulgence, then mignardises to munch on while replaying the dinner movie. A menu conceived as a long crescendo, ideal for a dinner for two or a small table of friends looking for a gastronomic New Year’s Eve in Paris without ostentation, but with great refinement.

After midnight, Paris at night

Another asset of Pertinence is its privileged location in the 7ᵉ. Just a few minutes’ walk from the restaurant takes you to the Champ-de-Mars, where you can admire the Eiffel Tower glittering above the city. You can also walk along the banks of the Seine, push on to the majestic vistas of theHôtel des Invalides, or simply stroll through the quiet streets of the district, where Haussmann facades cut through the winter sky.
Before or after dinner, this night stroll extends the New Year’s Eve and inscribes the moment in what Paris does best: light, stone, and that unique impression of being in the heart of the city, but in a bubble.
