Ultra-light hybrid foundations: 14 formulas to adopt for a natural complexion this spring

ParisSelect - Fonds de teint hybrides ultra-légers : 14 formules à adopter pour un teint naturel ce printemps

In the spring of 2026, hybrid foundations are shaking up our beauty habits. These new ultra-light formulas promise a natural result, while taking care of the skin. Here’s what you need to know to choose the ideal product.

Why so many women still shun foundation

According to a L’Oréal Paris study, around 40% of women use foundation until their forties. This figure then drops to 28% by age 45, and to just 24% after 55. Yet it’s precisely at this age that the complexion needs a boost.

There are two main reasons for this reluctance: skin that doesn’t breathe, and results that are too visible. But the new hybrid formulas are the answer to these fears. They are now so effective that it would be a shame to do without them.

Radiance, the marker of youthful skin

Marie-Hélène Lair, Clarins Director of Scientific Innovation, recalls a key fact. Between the ages of 30 and 60, skin loses 40% of its natural radiance. At the same age, women with a luminous complexion look younger.

“Ten years ago, we didn’t want shine, but with the glass skin phenomenon, we’ve realized that very luminous skin is skin that lives and looks young.

This observation by Élisabeth Bouhadana, L’Oréal Paris Scientific Communications Director, illustrates a major shift. A rosy glow from within is now in demand. Recent foundations incorporate skincare ingredients to achieve this.

Hybrid formulas that care as well as beautify

Long-lasting radiance comes from smooth, plump skin. That’s why brands are focusing on ingredients previously reserved for serums: hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and white lupin. These active ingredients ensure a luminous complexion all day long.

Armani’s iconic Luminous Silk, available in 44 shades at €59, has been reinvented. Boosted with skincare ingredients, it offers even more flattering luminosity. Clarins, meanwhile, relies on its A.U.R.A technology and exfoliating papain extract to optimize light reflection.

  • Double Serum Foundation, Clarins: 37 shades, €62
  • Teint Radiance Fond de Teint Sérum Éclat Naturel, Yves Rocher: 12 shades, €36.90
  • All Hours Glow Foundation, Yves Saint Laurent: 40 shades, €55
  • Double Wear Teint Longue Tenue, Estée Lauder: €58
  • Infaillible Cushion 24h Air Wear, L’Oréal Paris: 10 shades, €24.99

These products modulate well under the fingers. They can also be applied with a brush, blending in lightly. The material melts onto the skin for a luminous, perfecting finish.

100% undetectable rendering

In the invisible complexion category, the new finishes combine matte finish with subtle luminosity. Better still, their textures breathe with the skin. These liquid formulas change everything, without attracting attention.

Hermès promotes its Plein Air Fond de Teint Soin Mat Lumineux (34 shades, €125) as an invisible foundation. This fusional fluid is formulated with an 82% skincare base. On a day-to-day basis, women want a finish that doesn’t give them a heavy look,” confirms Margaux Jalouzot, make-up artist at L’Oréal Paris.

The new Infaillible cushion from L’Oréal Paris offers remarkable transparency. Its ultra-fine formula, designed in Paris but formulated in Korea, contains nanometric pigments embedded in a supple film. To apply, simply tap the puff and then apply a thin layer all over the face.

Tinted skincare, a lightweight alternative to classic foundation

For those who prefer an even more discreet result, tinted skincare products are an ideal option. Much less coverage, maximum lightness: they act like day creams that gently correct color.

Embryolisse’s silicone-free CC Cream+ lets the skin breathe perfectly. Available in 4 shades at €25 with SPF 20, it applies as intuitively as a colorless cream. Olivier Tissot, make-up artist for the brand, recommends preparing the skin with a serum before application.

Guerlain, experts in healthy glow, includes 90% ingredients of natural origin in its Terracotta Joli Teint (5 shades, €55, SPF 20). These include moisturizing organic argan oil and revitalizing ashwagandha extract. Worn alone or after a serum, this formula gives the appearance of golden Mediterranean skin.

Clever accessories to perfect your complexion

In addition to foundations, certain products complete the routine. Dior Forever Skin Bronze Stick (6 shades, €57) is applied with a finger or brush to the cheekbones, forehead and tip of the nose. The sun-kissed effect is stunningly natural.

For the eye contour area, Chanel’s Correcteur Sérum Éclat Belle Mine (€50) reduces signs of fatigue. Its fluid texture, bursting with hyaluronic acid and white camellia, is gently patted into the skin, with no build-up. Merit’s The Minimalist Stick (€42) corrects shadows and imperfections.

Finally, Givenchy’s Prisme Libre Skin & Color Serum Primer (€54) revives a dull complexion. This dewy base is smoothed over the entire face with fingertips, after the usual skincare routine. It prepares the skin for make-up, or can be worn alone for a discreet glow.
