The Domaine de Saint Cloud is far more than a park on the doorstep of Paris. This vast 460-hectare estate, listed as a Jardin remarquable, weaves together royal heritage, generous nature and a lively events programme that runs throughout the year. A royal park rooted in history
The story of the estate begins in the 16th century, when Catherine de Médicis transferred the Hôtel d’Aulnay to Jérôme de Gondi. The residence was gradually transformed into a pleasure house, surrounded by terraces, formal French parterres and leafy groves perfect for an afternoon stroll.
Acquired by Philippe d’Orléans, the estate became a leading centre of political and cultural life. The château itself, however, did not survive the war of 1870 and was lost. The gardens laid out by Le Nôtre, on the other hand, have retained their atmosphere of grandeur and quiet serenity.
Perched on the heights above the Seine, the park commands a breathtaking view over the capital. Its avenues, sculptures and fountains keep alive the splendour of a royal past, even in the absence of the long-vanished château.
The treasures of a remarkable garden
The Grande Cascade, a hydraulic masterpiece of the 17th century, continues to impress with its symmetrical elegance, though it is currently undergoing restoration works. The Bassin du Fer à Cheval below it offers a striking perspective, extended by pathways lined with antique statues, hornbeam allées and belvederes.
The walk also leads towards the Jardin du Trocadéro, the Val d’Or and the Orangerie. These names evoke a prestigious past that visitors rediscover at every turn in the path.

Rock en Seine 2026: a prestige line-up
In 2026, Rock en Seine announces its return to the Domaine de Saint Cloud with five days of festivities, from Wednesday 26 to Sunday 30 August. The programme features The Cure, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Tyler, The Creator, alongside Deftones, Turnstile, Franz Ferdinand, Sparks, Kompromat, Clipse, Mogwai, Wolf Alice, Peaches and Lykke Li.
Nick Cave returns four years after his memorable show on this very site. The Cure, meanwhile, closes the festival on Sunday 30 August, seven years after their last appearance at Rock en Seine. The British band will be performing tracks from their studio album « Songs of a Lost World ».
Autumn 2026: a calendar of solidarity and heritage
The Journées du Patrimoine 2026 offer a wonderful opportunity to rediscover the Domaine de Saint Cloud. Water displays, historical walks and guided visits are planned for Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September 2026.
On that same Saturday 19 September, the Fondation ARC is organising the Triathlon des Roses, a charity race dedicated to women in the fight against breast cancer. The park thus plays host to events that are as culturally rich as they are socially meaningful.
On Sunday 27 September 2026, the « Enfants sans Cancer » race will also take place within the national estate. The event aims to raise as much funding as possible to support research into treatments for children with cancer. The Domaine de Saint Cloud reaffirms its vocation as a place of gathering, open to every cause and every visitor.
