Les Deux Magots celebrates its 140th anniversary this year, and for the occasion, Paris’ favorite literary café has a number of surprises in store.

To celebrate this anniversary, Les Deux Magots is delighted to present the exhibition “140 years of creative minds in Saint-Germain-des-Prés”. It can be seen in their home from April 30 to September 22, 2024. This magnificent retrospective pays tribute to those who bring this literary café to life. It allows artists of all eras to express their fantasy, their madness and their thoughts within its walls. You’ll be immersed in the philosophy of Les Deux Magots! A meeting place where everything is created and transformed. All the arts come together here. Writers, film-makers, musicians, thinkers, painters, sculptors, architects, stylists… They embody the life of the café.

So now’s the perfect time to sample Les Deux Magots’ brand new cocktail! To celebrate its 140th anniversary, the Maison is offering an anniversary cocktail that reflects its history and festive spirit.

Introducing the new creation “Le swing de Vian”. A tribute to the iconic Boris Vian, singer, writer, poet and musician from our neighborhood. Anyone who has read his novel L’Écume des Jours will know that he was brimming with new ideas and inventions… Especially when it comes to cocktails! Inspired by an original recipe by Vian, “Le swing de Vian” has been slightly revisited to suit contemporary tastes.

But what are the ingredients? Vian’s swing subtly blends St-Germain elderberry liqueur, cherry brandy and grapefruit tonic. The result is a refreshingly elegant drink to celebrate the anniversary in style.

A new menu for spring

Spring is back, and with it, Les Deux Magots is renewing its menu with seasonal dishes. Starters include a seasonal cold soup, thyme-scented duck pâté en croûte, white asparagus with creamy vinaigrette, grilled vegetable millefeuille with fresh chèvre, and avocado tartar with crab remoulade. Main courses include duck breast with orange and star anise, herb-roasted saddle of lamb and beef fillet with five-berry peppers, as well as pavé de quasi de veau forestier.

For seafood lovers, back of cod with avruga roe, Niçoise-style monkfish and pan-fried filet of Saint-Pierre are available. Vegetarian dishes include gnocchi with vegetables and mushrooms. As for desserts, the seasonal coupes composées and the platter of pastries are a must. Finally, to celebrate the 140th anniversary of Les Deux Magots, a special cocktail called “Le swing de Vian” was created, inspired by a recipe by Boris Vian, combining St-Germain elderflower liqueur, cherry brandy and grapefruit tonic.
