Ring watch: when the watch slips off the finger… and seduces a new generation
What if luxury was no longer worn on the wrist? In 2025, the watch will migrate to the finger. Here’s why the ring watch is the watchmaking obsession of the moment.
A forgotten tradition brought back to life
The ring watch is not a TikTok innovation. It was born… in 1757. The first documented model, signed by the watchmaker Caron for Madame de Pompadour, already combined jewel aesthetics with watchmaking utility. Long overshadowed by the wristwatch, it is now making an unexpected comeback.
Thanks TikTok (and Gen Z)
In 2025, the hashtag #ringwatch accumulated over 17 million views. Gen Z, avid for vintage objects and stylistic detour, rediscovers this forgotten timepiece. The result: a wave of ringwatches on the fingers of influencers and celebrities, reviving interest in the second-hand luxury market. On resale platforms, you can already find pieces for between a few hundred and several thousand euros.
Brands with their finger on the pulse
Some brands haven’t waited to capitalize. Fossil, a pioneer, has been offering vintage and multifunctional models since 2019. Casio, for its part, is creating a stir with the CRW-001, inspired by a historic ring from 1946. This watch pays tribute to the object that financed the brand’s first calculator.
More discreet, the big houses are moving forward cautiously. But Chanel has already made its mark with the Mademoiselle Privé Bouton, a ring-watch with minimalist, elegant luxury.
Rihanna, Taylor Swift… stars set an example
On the celebrity side, Rihanna was one of the first to proudly display a Patcharavipa ring-watch, using genuine vintage Rolex dials. Megan Thee Stallion, Dixie D’Amelio, and Taylor Swift (with a dial necklace) have helped to anchor the trend in the collective imagination.
