Gucci and Pomellato join forces: a collection of haute joaillerie combining archive and modernity
The Kering Group orchestrates an unprecedented collaboration between Gucci and Pomellato. The Monili high jewelry collection blends Florentine leather goods with Milanese jewelry-making expertise.
It’s a first in the history of the Kering Group. Gucci, the Florentine fashion giant, has teamed up with Pomellato, the Italian jewelry reference, to sign a cross-disciplinary high jewelry collection. Entitled Monili – Italian for “jewels” – this exclusive line represents a rare encounter between two worlds with strong identities, united by their Italian roots and artisanal vocation.
Between heritage and innovation
The Monili pieces are inspired by 1984 drawings from the Pomellato archives. But beyond this jewelry memory, it is Gucci’ s imprint that marks the overall aesthetic of the collection. The suppleness of top-stitched leather, a signature of Gucci leather goods, blends here with the sparkle ofwhite gold and diamonds, giving rise to sculptural bracelets with invisible clasps, ultra-design hard clutches and a multi-function minaudière with a large link strap.
This cross-fertilization of materials and know-how is part of a deliberate cross-sectoral approach, reflecting Kering’s strategic repositioning in a shrinking luxury goods market. Faced with a tense economic context and a significant drop in sales in several of the Group’s divisions, this initiative aims to pool in-house expertise while promoting Italian know-how.
An ultra-exclusive strategy
With this capsule, Kering is targeting a VIC (Very Important Clients) clientele, looking for unique pieces, on the borderline between the utilitarian object and the art jewel. This strategy is in line with Kering’s desire to enhance its brand positioning by appealing to an ultra-wealthy international clientele in search of rarity.
With Monili, Gucci and Pomellato offer discreet, technical, invitation-only luxury. A demonstration of strength rather than seduction.
