Hermès opens a new leather goods workshop in Gironde and plans to recruit 260 craftsmen
In 2026, Hermès will continue to establish itself in south-west France. The brand has just inaugurated a new leather goods workshop in Loupe, Gironde. This new facility reflects the brand’s determination to preserve its unique craftsmanship.
A 25th leather goods workshop for Hermès in France
The French company has chosen the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region to set up this production site. More precisely, the workshop is located in the Gironde department, in Loupe. This is the group’s 25th leather goods workshop in France.
This opening also marks an important milestone for the Gironde region. The département is now home to two production sites dedicated to leather. The first opened in Saint-Vincent-de-Paul in 2019.
The Saint-Vincent-de-Paul workshop produces iconic pieces. These include the Kelly, the Constance and the Bride de Jour. These models have embodied the House’s excellence for decades.
“The Hermès School of Craftsmanship trains the artisans who will join our workshops throughout France.
Craft training at the heart of the project
Hermès plans to employ 260 craftsmen in the new workshop. These professionals will be trained at the École Hermès des savoir-faire. This institution imparts the techniques specific to the House.
The school accompanies each of the Group’s workshops in France. It guarantees the transmission of recognized know-how. Craftsmen learn the precise gestures that have made the reputation of the company’s creations.
South-West France, a land of leather goods for the home
The Loupe workshop is the sixth largest in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. This concentration testifies to the company’s strong attachment to the region. Here, the company finds the skills and environment it needs to thrive.
Three new projects have already been announced. Workshops will open in Charleville-Mézières in the Ardennes. Another will open in Colombelles in Calvados.
The third site will be in Les Andelys, in the Eure region. These new sites confirm the brand’s strategy of expansion throughout France. The brand is thus reinforcing its territorial coverage.
- 25 leather goods workshops in France after the opening of Loupe
- 6 production sites in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region
- 260 craftsmen planned for the new workshop
- 3 new workshops planned: Ardennes, Calvados and Eure
- Training provided by the École Hermès des savoir-faire
Local production for exceptional pieces
French workshops manufacture the company’s leather bags and accessories. Each piece requires hours of manual labor. The craftsmen master techniques handed down from generation to generation.
This local production also meets a growing demand. Customers are looking for authentic, traceable creations. Made in France” is a powerful argument for the brand.
An investment in jobs and craft heritage
The opening of new workshops generates skilled jobs. The regions concerned benefit from direct economic spin-offs. Trained craftsmen acquire skills in demand in the luxury goods sector.
Hermès thus perpetuates a tradition of French craftsmanship. The company invests in training and infrastructure. This approach reinforces its high-end positioning on the global market.
The luxury leather goods sector will remain dynamic in 2026. French manufacturers rely on their heritage to stand out from the crowd. Manufacturing quality remains a decisive criterion for buyers.
Regional workshops contribute to this excellence. They ensure strict control of every stage of production. The result is durable, carefully finished pieces.
