Lutetia becomes Mandarin Oriental: a fusion of legends in the heart of the Left Bank

The union between the iconic Lutetia and the prestigious Mandarin Oriental group is redrawing the map of Parisian luxury. An alliance of heritage, elegance and exceptional hotel know-how.

A new chapter opens for the Left Bank

April 3, 2025 marks a key date in the history of the Paris hotel industry: the famous Hôtel Lutetia officially joins the portfolio of the Mandarin Oriental group, becoming Mandarin Oriental Lutetia, Paris. This emblematic palace – and the only one of its kind on the Left Bank – begins a new chapter under the aegis of a house renowned for its excellence in service and oriental refinement.

This strategic announcement strengthens the group’s presence in Paris, already established on the Right Bank with its chic Rue Saint-Honoré address. The group now offers two complementary experiences: on the one hand, discreet, contemporary luxury; on the other, magnified heritage grandeur.

A shared vision of heritage and innovation

According to Laurent Kleitman, CEO of Mandarin Oriental, this double location in Paris reflects a clear ambition: to offer unique experiences, at the crossroads of history, culture and exceptional hospitality. The Lutetia, as a monument of Parisian memory, fits perfectly into this logic.

The new Mandarin Oriental Lutetia intends to preserve the soul of the place – its singular architecture, its cultural vocation, its art of entertaining – while enriching it with a touch of controlled modernity, true to the spirit of the group. The Spa Akasha, Brasserie Lutetia, Bar Joséphine and exceptional suites continue to embody the charm of the palace, enhanced by internationally recognized hospitality standards.

Le Lutetia: an address steeped in history

Founded in 1910 by the founders of Le Bon Marché, the Lutetia has long been a haven for artists, writers and intellectuals. From James Joyce to Picasso, from Charles de Gaulle to Sonia Rykiel, they all once walked the hushed carpets of this Art Nouveau and Art Deco palace. A symbol of Left Bank elegance, it also experienced dark times, notably during the Second World War, before being reborn as a place of refuge, creation and memory.

Completely restored in 2018 by Jean-Michel Wilmotte, the building has regained its aura while integrating the demands of contemporary comfort. With the arrival of Mandarin Oriental, this living heritage continues its ascent, more vibrant than ever.

An alliance at the top, hailed by its players

The Akirov family, owners of the Lutetia, are delighted with this new milestone. They claim to share with Mandarin Oriental the same desire: to honor the past while ensuring a sustainable, demanding and inspiring future. This synergy between local vision and international excellence already seems to have won unanimous approval from hotel loyalists and newcomers alike.
