13 Parisian parks will stay open until midnight this summer, and the list is set to change everything for your evenings
Summer in Paris has its charms, but also its drawbacks. When the heat sets in and every corner of the city feels crowded, Parisian parks become the best possible escape. And this year, some of them are staying open much later than usual.
What You Might Not Know About the Capital’s Gardens
Paris has 531 parks, gardens, and public squares. It’s a fact that few people are actually aware of. Yet this wealth of green space is right there, accessible by metro in almost every arrondissement.
Of these spaces, 140 are open year-round, without interruption. Thus, even outside peak hours, the city’s green spaces remain open. However, most of the larger gardens close in the evening, around 9:00 or 9:30 p.m.
In January, this is rarely a problem. But in the middle of summer, when the sun is slow to set and the heat lingers well past 8 p.m., this closure becomes frustrating. That is precisely why the City of Paris decided to take action.
“Paris at night, in an almost empty park—it’s priceless.”
Extended hours until midnight so you can enjoy the cool evening air
From July 4 to September 6, 2026, some large green spaces will extend their hours until midnight. This is no small matter: it means two to three extra hours of green space access every evening.
A total of 13 parks and green spaces are included in this extended operating hours program. In addition, the list covers several arrondissements, allowing many Parisians to find a park near their home.
The Parisian parks affected by the extended hours
Among the gardens that will remain open until midnight this summer are some well-known spots. Buttes-Chaumont (19th arrondissement), Montsouris Park (14th arrondissement), the Reuilly-Paul-Pernin Garden (12th arrondissement), and the Villemin Garden (10th arrondissement) are among the spots included.
These Parisian parks are often crowded during the day. However, after 10 p.m., the atmosphere changes completely. The grass stays cool, the air is crisp, and the crowds naturally thin out.
The complete list of the 13 areas is available on the City of Paris website, organized by arrondissement. This way, anyone can quickly check whether their neighborhood is affected.
- Les Buttes-Chaumont (19th arrondissement) is open until midnight
- Montsouris Park (14th arrondissement) is open until midnight
- Reuilly Garden – Paul-Pernin (12th arrondissement) open until midnight
- Villemin Garden (10th arrondissement) is open until midnight
- A total of 13 green spaces will be affected from July 4 to September 6, 2026
During a heat wave, even more options become available
If a heat wave sets in, 7 additional green spaces will be added to the program. The list will then expand to include parks such as Parc Monceau (8th arrondissement), Parc André-Citroën (15th arrondissement), and Parc Clichy-Batignolles – Martin Luther King (17th arrondissement).
In addition, with this expanded version, Paris’s nighttime parks now cover even more districts. As a result, nearly all residents of the capital can find a green space within walking distance or accessible by public transportation.
How can you actually enjoy these gardens in the evening?
It’s easy. Just head to the Paris City Hall website, where all the opening hours are listed by arrondissement. Find the nearest open garden, and head there with a blanket and a nice cold bottle.
These Parisian parks, which stay open late into the evening, offer something rare in the summer: peace and quiet, green spaces, and temperatures that are finally bearable. They’re also a practical option for families and individuals alike looking to escape the urban heat.
The gardens in question remain open until midnight, well after sunset. This offers a chance to experience Paris from a different perspective, far from the hustle and bustle of crowded terraces and riverbanks.
Paris’s parks at night, nearly empty at this hour, become true havens. However, be sure to check the opening hours in advance on the official website, as they may vary depending on weather conditions and heat waves.
