When a couturier and a perfumer reconnect after years of friendship, something unexpected can emerge: not a straightforward commercial collaboration, but a genuine olfactory library. That is precisely what Frank Sorbier and Olivier Perault, senior perfumer at Robertet in Grasse, have built together under the name Sorbier Parfums, weaving a dialogue between Haute Couture fabrics and the raw materials of perfumery.
When friendship becomes the engine of olfactory creation
It all begins with a long-standing human relationship. Frank Sorbier and Olivier Perault have known each other for years, and it is precisely that mutual trust which made the project possible. Without it, the research Sorbier had been keeping since 2000, reflections on fragrance that had lain dormant for more than two decades, might well have remained in their folders.
The catalyst was the Haute Couture collection of June 2024, entitled “Nuages”. Frank Sorbier wanted to give it an olfactory identity, a complementary sensory imprint. He sent Olivier Perault a photograph of an iconic look from the collection. The perfumer wanted to observe its texture, absorb it, understand what it was saying. That simple gesture was enough to reveal an obvious truth: Haute Couture and fragrance had long had a rendezvous.
Isabelle Sorbier, Frank’s muse and partner, played a founding role in this adventure. Her enduring love of beautiful perfumes, shared without reservation, helped transform an intuition into a concrete reality.
Two disciplines, one shared pursuit of emotion
What is striking about the Sorbier Parfums approach is the deep coherence between the two crafts. Olivier Perault puts it plainly: where Frank Sorbier sketches a silhouette, he writes a formula.
