The Devil Wears Prada 2: what we already know

It’s now official: The Devil Wears Prada will have a sequel. Twenty years after making its mark on an entire generation, the cult comedy is getting a second chapter. Casting confirmed, plot unveiled, release date announced… Here’s all the information already available on this eventful comeback.
Filming began in summer 2025
On June 30, 2025, filming officially began on The Devil Wears Prada 2. A teaser released at the same time caused quite a stir: it shows a female figure in an immaculate suit, holding a signature red heel. An immediate nod to the style of Miranda Priestly, the icy icon of the first opus.
Shooting took place mainly in New York, but also in London and Milan. The film is once again directed by David Frankel, who takes up the reins again two decades after directing the first opus. As for the tone, it promises to remain acidic, elegant and always extremely stylish.
The cult cast is (almost) complete
It’s one of the big news stories: Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are all back. They reprise their respective roles: Miranda Priestly, Andy Sachs, Emily Charlton and Nigel.
Fans will note one notable absence, however: Adrian Grenier, who played Nate, Andy’s ex-boyfriend. The actor will not be reprising his role, now considered problematic by some members of the public. On the other hand, the arrival of Kenneth Branagh in the role of Miranda Priestly’s husband brings a fresh look at the tyrannical editor’s private sphere – a dimension never before explored.
A plot rooted in today’s world
The script, still by Aline Brosh McKenna, plunges us into a world in the throes of change: that of the fashion press. Runway, the magazine run by Miranda, is on the verge of bankruptcy. Paper is no longer profitable. Advertising budgets are shrinking.
Faced with this crisis, Miranda has to deal with a new situation: her former assistant, Emily, now an influential executive in a luxury group, could well hold the keys to the title’s financial salvation. But personal tensions soon resurface. Between professional rivalry and subtle settling of scores, the duo promises memorable confrontations.
The plot blends editorial crisis, digital mutations and feminine power, in a fearsomely contemporary game of mirrors.
A highly symbolic release date
The film will be released on 1ᵉʳ May 2026 in the United States. In France, it will be released on April 29, 2026. A strategic choice: the first film was released at the same time in 2006. Twenty years to the day.
This anniversary revival is designed to appeal to both long-time fans and new generations. Because the style of The Devil Wears Prada has aged… but very well. Between self-assumed nostalgia and a sharp look behind the scenes of luxury, this sequel aims high – and right.
A pop phenomenon as strong as ever
Since its announcement, the sequel has generated a rare level of excitement. Social networks are abuzz with every new detail. Lookbook videos inspired by the film explode on TikTok. And the first photos from the set fuel the fascination surrounding Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, as iconic as ever.
Beyond fashion, a whole imaginary world emerges: that of post-2000 feminism, acid humor and a sharp critique of the world of work and power. All of which is served up by a cast equal to the challenge.
A return calibrated to hit the bull’s-eye
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is no mere nostalgia flick. It’s a contemporary retelling of a modern myth, a mirror held up to our times. With Meryl Streep as sovereign as ever, Anne Hathaway more assertive than ever, and a formidable Emily Blunt in a powerful new role, this sequel promises to be as brilliant as it is eagerly awaited.
