Paris prepares for New Year’s Eve on the Champs-Élysées. Dreaming of a shared countdown and a colorful sky? Here’s what’s in store, and how to make the most of it.

Champs-Élysées fireworks: the setting and the spirit

On the most famous avenue in Paris, the Arc de Triomphe becomes the backdrop for the show. The fireworks display takes place at midnight, to mark the start of the New Year.

Before the light show, a visual show dresses up the Arc. The City of Paris is offering a free family event, under police supervision. Come early, as crowds will be high.

“On the avenue, everyone shares the same countdown, in a festive and respectful spirit.”

Access, perimeter and controls

For New Year’s Eve, a secure perimeter has been set up. Signposted access points filter the crowd, with searches and bag checks. Arrive with a margin, so the wait will be more comfortable.

Glass bottles, firecrackers and drones are prohibited. Dedicated areas for people with reduced mobility are provided, with accompaniment. Pack light, as pedestrian traffic is heavy.

  • Date: December 31 on the Champs-Élysées
  • Time of fire: midnight; visual animation before the shot
  • Prohibited items: glass, firecrackers, private fireworks, drones
  • Controlled access and searches; allow for a margin of arrival
  • Heavy crowds expected; please observe safety instructions

Transport and overnight returns

For New Year’s Eve, the transport offer is traditionally reinforced. Road traffic is restricted around the perimeter, so the metro and RER remain the most reliable options.

Stations close to the Champs-Élysées may close earlier, in order to manage traffic flows. For New Year’s Eve, anticipate your connections and arrange a meeting point. In case of crowds, be patient and follow the signs.

Weather, comfort and local landmarks

New Year’s Eve can be cold and wet. Dress in layers to keep warm while you wait. Take water and a snack, but avoid drinks.

The mobile network can become saturated near midnight, so have a plan B if you get lost. Locate rescue areas and reception teams. In short, keep your belongings close to you.

Risk-free partying: rules and alternatives

In Paris and the inner suburbs, private fires are often prohibited on New Year’s Eve. Respect the by-laws and the F3 regulations, reserved for adults and sometimes professionals, depending on the product.
