This forged carbon Casio automatic watch at €449 is already turning heads
Finding a Japanese automatic watch that is elegant, affordable, and available without a months-long waiting list: that is exactly what the EFK-200 promises. It is the latest release from a brand nobody expected to venture into this territory. Casio, long synonymous with quartz movements and digital displays, has nonetheless managed to shake up the accessible mechanical watch market with a collection that is gaining serious momentum in 2026.
From sold-out shelves to a full lineup: Casio’s journey so far
It all started with the EFK-100, an automatic watch that quite literally vanished from shelves across every market. That unexpected success confirmed there was a genuine audience for an affordable Japanese mechanical. The brand then refined its approach with the EFK-110, launched in March 2026, which offered a more compact case and a slimmer profile than its predecessor.
The EFK-200 is therefore the third chapter in this still-young mechanical saga. It sits within the brand’s in-house concept called “Speed & Intelligence”, directly inspired by automotive culture. That through-line gives the entire collection a strong visual coherence, from the case design to the dial finishes.
What the EFK-200 actually delivers on the wrist
The case measures 38 mm in diameter and just 11.6 mm thick, making it a discreet and versatile everyday wear. The finishing alternates between brushed satin surfaces and mirror-polished zones, creating a play of reflections that shifts with the angle and the light, much like a car body catching the sun.
Beneath the sapphire crystal, the Japanese-made automatic movement delivers 42 hours of power reserve, features a hacking seconds function, and is water-resistant to 10 bar. The screwed exhibition caseback lets you watch the movement in action, a deliberate nod to the mechanics of a racing engine.
Five variants make up the collection:
- Two dials in forged carbon with a unique marbled pattern, a material borrowed from the aerospace industry.
- A blue gradient dial, produced by electroforming.
- A burgundy red gradient dial, also produced by electroforming.
- A brown gradient dial, available in the gold-tone version.
Each forged carbon piece features a different pattern, giving every watch its own individual character.
Three price points for three levels of finish
The EFK-200 range is structured around three distinct price points on the French market. The versions with a blue, burgundy, or forged carbon dial on a steel case are priced at €299. The gold-tone variant with a brown dial steps up to €369. The flagship model, with a fully forged carbon case, a resin strap, and a butterfly clasp, reaches €449.
This pricing structure lets every buyer choose according to their budget and aesthetic preferences, without ever crossing the €450 threshold. Faced with increasingly strong Japanese competition in the €300,€450 mechanical segment, the brand is clearly playing the style-to-price ratio card.
Where to find the EFK-200 in France
The watches are available at the G-Shock Stores in Paris and Lyon, on the brand’s official website, and through a selection of authorised retailers. Distribution remains targeted, which could put pressure on availability for the most sought-after models.
The question naturally arises: after the EFK-100 shortage, will this new collection manage to stay on shelves, or will fans of affordable mechanical watches once again need to move fast to secure their piece?
