Chez Miocque: the Deauville institution regains its lustre

In Deauville, certain addresses belong as much to the history of a town as to that of its regulars. So, when an institution changes hands, caution is often the order of the day. The fear is that the soul will be lost, the decor too smooth and the menu too formatted. But in this case, the Bourdoncle Group’s takeover marks a highly successful renaissance. The restaurant has regained its energy, elegance and the extra character that made it such a legend.

Founded in 1905, then taken over in the 80s by Jacques Aviègne, known as “Miocque”, the house has long embodied a certain idea of seaside festivity and bistronomy. French and international stars came and went.

After several changes of hands and the death of Jacques Aviègne in 2022, the institution seemed to have lost its lustre. The Bourdoncle group’s takeover marks a real renaissance. Already owners of Le Drakkar next door, Ariane and Thierry Bourdoncle have restored the premises.

Upstairs, the American bar is the surprise of the new version. Deep red, muted lighting, New York speakeasy ambience: the place has character. Ariane Bourdoncle has imagined a bar where you can enjoy a drink alone, in complete tranquillity. An elegant intention, perfectly embodied by the place.

In the dining room, celebrity caricatures still grace the tables. As for the menu, it respects the restaurant’s identity without being rigid. Chef Édouard Faure’s Beef Wellington, accompanied by well-winged Sarlatan apples, sums up the spirit of the house: masterful, generous cuisine without unnecessary effect.
