Open-air swimming pools in Paris: where to take a dip this summer

ParisSelectBook - Piscines en plein air à Paris : les adresses où piquer une tête cet été

As the sun settles over the capital, outdoor swimming pools in Paris become the best answer to the heat. Some open at the end of May 2026, others welcome swimmers all summer long. Here are the open-air pools that are really worth a visit this season.

Swimming in the Seine: the return of free bathing areas

It’s now a well-established summer habit in Paris: swimming directly in the Seine. Several temporary bathing areas are completely free, safe and supervised by lifeguards. So there’s no need to pay to cool off in the heart of the capital.

Among this season’s new additions is a spot on the Pont Louis-Philippe (4th), ideal after a stroll through the Marais district. In addition, a swimming area has been set up near the Jardins Tino-Rossi (5th), with a breathtaking view of the Île Saint-Louis.

The bras de Grenelle (15th) and Quai de Bercy (12th) are also available to complete the offer. So, whatever your address, there’s likely to be a spot of fresh water just a metro ride away. Paris Plages 2026 runs from July 4 to August 30.

“Gone are the classic municipal pools, this summer we’re going straight for a dip in the river.”

The Hoxton and Molitor: two pools with two very different atmospheres

For those looking for a more select setting, the Hoxton pool offers an 8 x 2-meter pool with an associated bar. Open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 30-32, rue du Sentier (2e), it welcomed its first bathers in early June. It’s the perfect place to sip a cocktail with your feet in the water.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for a more grandiose setting, the Molitor pool at 2, avenue de la Porte Molitor (16th arrondissement) offers a top-of-the-range experience. Open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and at weekends from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. It’s certainly the most expensive swimming pool in Paris, but the location is simply magnificent.

Municipal open-air pools: our picks for swimming in Paris

The Roger Le Gall swimming pool, at 34, boulevard Carnot (12e), is our real summer favorite. Its large 50-meter pool and sunbathing areas under the trees give you the impression of swimming in the countryside. Open from Monday to Sunday, it’s the ideal spot to forget the Parisian asphalt.

Also popular with regulars, the Josephine Baker pool on Quai François Mauriac (13th arrondissement) offers the illusion of swimming in the Seine thanks to its infinity pool. From Monday to Sunday, you can swim laps and soak up the sun in an original setting.

The Auteuil pool, at 1, route des Lacs in Passy (16th), opens on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Its solarium in the middle of nature and its partially openable roof make it one of the capital’s most relaxed addresses. What better way to unwind after a busy week?

  • Piscine Edouard Pailleron – 32, rue Edouard-Pailleron (19th district) – outdoor space in the grass – listed building

Butte-aux-Cailles and Pailleron: listed swimming pools

The Butte-aux-Cailles swimming pool is one of two listed historic monument pools in Paris. Its Art Nouveau style and concrete arches make it an atypical place, open from Tuesday to Sunday. Swimming here also means crossing a piece of Parisian history.

Similarly, theEspace Pailleron at 32, rue Edouard-Pailleron (19th arrondissement) has been listed as a historic monument for its high-gallery cabins. It offers a sports pool, a play area with a paddling pool for children, a whirlpool and an outdoor grassy relaxation area. So there’s something for the whole family, Monday to Sunday.

Open-top pools: swimming under the Parisian sky

The Georges Vallerey swimming pool, at 148, avenue Gambetta (20e), reopens on Sunday, May 31, 2026. Renovated ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics, it features a retractable roof that transforms every swimming session as soon as the first rays of sunshine appear. It’s one of Paris’ most popular pools for swimmers in the 20th arrondissement.

The Keller swimming pool, in the heart of the Beaugrenelle district(15th arrondissement), opens on June 1, 2026. Its roof opens onto the district’s skyscrapers, offering a striking perspective. What’s more, the pool operates without chlorine, making it an ideal choice for sensitive skin.

The Georges-Hermant pool, at 8-10, rue David d’Angers (19th arrondissement), is an open-air Olympic pool that welcomes solo swimmers and families alike. It is scheduled to open in July 2026. You can also lounge on the bleachers or in the small green space behind the pool. So, of all the pools in Paris this summer, each offers a different experience to suit your mood.
