Chanel’s 19M opens its secret embroidery and millinery workshops for two days only
Just two days, and doors that rarely swing open: the 2026 European Heritage Days offer a rare chance to step inside the workshops of Chanel’s 19M, the space entirely dedicated to the house’s Métiers d’art. On 19 and 20 September, embroiderers, milliners and visitors come together across 25,000 m² normally reserved for professionals.
A garden, an architecture and exceptional craftsmanship at the heart of the 19M
Inaugurated in 2022, the 19M was designed by architect Rudy Ricciotti, also behind Marseille’s Mucem. The building, located at 2 place Skanderberg in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, houses several specialist workshops that bring the house’s creations to life every day. The visit ends in La Parcelle, the complex’s garden, offering a moment of calm at the heart of this exceptional site.
For this 43rd edition of the European Heritage Days, the 19M is taking part in the programme for the fourth time. Entry is free, with no advance booking required, subject to availability. Doors are open from 9am to 8pm, with last entry at 6pm.
Atelier Montex and Studio MTX, two embroidery workshops rarely open to the public
The route mapped out for visitors leads to two workspaces that most people have never heard of. Atelier Montex, an embroidery house founded in 1949, welcomes visitors to witness gestures of precision passed down over decades. Every stitch, every thread speaks to a craft that takes years to master.
Studio MTX, a more recent offshoot of Atelier Montex, applies those same techniques to interior architecture projects and large-scale pieces. This meeting point between traditional embroidery and monumental creation shows just how far these crafts can stretch. Artisans on site engage directly with visitors, something the organisers hope will spark new vocations in a sector that is actively hiring.
The Maison Michel exhibition, an exclusive preview before its official opening
Even before its official inauguration, the exhibition dedicated to Maison Michel will be presented as a preview across these two days. Titled “Métamorphoses, les chapeaux de Maison Michel”, it brings together historic pieces, contemporary creations and previously unseen collaborations centred on this house founded in 1936, specialising in millinery and headwear accessories.
The exhibition will then open to the public from 23 September to 13 December 2026. Catching its preview during Heritage Days means seeing it before anyone else, in an intimate setting and entirely free of charge.
