From May 30, 2026, a contemporary art exhibition will take up residence in an unusual location: the Parisian cemetery of Pantin. Called Demeure, this open-air gallery features some forty works along the allée des Sophoras. The POUSH collective is behind this project, which invites us to take a different approach to these often overlooked spaces.

Twenty-one artists have collaborated to create this unique artistic journey. Between the silence, the ancient trees and the tombstones, over 40 works of art await you. The exhibition is free and open to the public, allowing visitors to stroll at their own pace.

The Sophora avenue runs the length of the cemetery. Visitors can enjoy a kilometer-long walk punctuated by surprising installations. The atmosphere of the site lends a special depth to each of the works on display.

The aim is clear: to strengthen the link between the memory of those who left and those who remain. To achieve this, art and nature are brought together in a singular dialogue. The installations resonate with this place steeped in history and emotion.

Installations that play with the site and its symbols

Among the most surprising works is an interactive eye nestled in a stone. It won’t let you out of its sight as you walk past. Similarly, charred wooden bats hide in the trees.

These creatures are only revealed at night, thanks to the signaling of small bells. The tour also includes a wax funeral wreath. You can also view live webcam feeds from Andy Warhol’s grave in Pennsylvania.

POUSH, the collective that transforms abandoned places into art spaces

At the heart of this exhibition is POUSH. This collective was created in 2020 to support artistic creation. It is based in Aubervilliers and Clichy, just outside Paris.

Today, the association brings together 270 artists of over 30 different nationalities. Its programming is innovative and accessible to all, with no admission charge. POUSH sometimes sees the city as a blank canvas to invest in.

The collective develops ambitious projects in the form of huge shared workshops. They leave room for artistic experimentation. Its transitional development projects take over abandoned sites while awaiting their new use.

Guided tours and meetings with artists
