This Audemars Piguet x Swatch collaboration has the networks going wild, and this technical detail changes everything.
In May 2026, the collaboration between Audemars Piguet and Swatch set social networks ablaze. Called Royal Pop, this watch collection brings together two Swiss manufacturers from very different worlds. Yet their alliance created an unprecedented craze among watch lovers.
An announcement that sent social networks into a frenzy
Even before the official reveal, Internet users were buzzing. Swatch had published four teasers on its Instagram account, distilling enigmatic clues. A leather cord, the word “Clake”, then the words “Royal” and “Pop” on colorful backgrounds: each publication fueled speculation.
These hints instinctively evokedAudemars Piguet‘s iconic Royal Oak model. The fourth teaser revealed a mechanism, confirming that it would indeed be a watch. Images generated by artificial intelligence multiplied, as enthusiasts tried to guess the final design.
The communication strategy of both houses worked perfectly. By revealing almost nothing, they created considerable anticipation around this eventful collaboration.
“I imagine a collector’s watch inspired by the world of artist Roy Lichtenstein. That’s what these teasers remind me of.”
Expert speculation before the revelation
Faced with this mystery, industry professionals multiplied their hypotheses. Some imagined a timepiece based on the Audemars Piguet design, with Swatch’s accessible materials. Others thought of a tourbillon watch or even a piece of handbag jewelry.
Reference was often made to the previous collaboration between Swatch and Omega. This alliance had already demonstrated that a high-end watch manufacturer could join forces with a more popular brand. The success of this formula presaged a similar craze for Royal Pop.
- Eight watches make up the Royal Pop collection
- Swiss Made bioceramic cases
- Removable strap for wearing on the wrist, neck or as a bag accessory
- Hand-wound SISTEM51 movement with over 90 hours of power reserve
- Available from May 16th in selected Swatch stores
Royal Pop: when Pop Art meets haute horlogerie
The verdict is in: Audemars Piguet and Swatch are launching eight bioceramic watches with a host of wearable options. Gone are the classic bracelets. A removable strap lets you wear them on the wrist, around the neck, in a pocket or hanging from a bag. A dedicated holder even turns them into a desk watch.
The two manufacturers were inspired by the Pop Art movement for this creation. This artistic movement, famous for transforming everyday objects into colorful works of art, permeates every detail of the collection. The 1972 Royal Oak is reinterpreted with the playful spirit of the Swatch POPs of the 1980s.
The SISTEM51 movement is the technical heart of these timepieces. Visible through a transparent caseback, it represents a feat of engineering: the first Swiss hand-wound movement to be assembled entirely automatically. Its power reserve exceeds 90 hours.
Six Lépine models and two Savonnette models
The collection is divided into two distinct categories. Six Lépine models feature a crown at 12 o’clock with an hour/minute display. Two Savonnette models feature a crown at 3 o’clock and a small seconds at 6 o’clock.
The number eight is not insignificant. It pays homage to the octagonal eight-screw bezel of the Royal Oak. The aesthetic elements of this iconic model are repeated, notably the “Petite Tapisserie” motif on the dial.
Finishes worthy of fine Swiss watchmaking
Each Royal Pop watch features top-quality components. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial. Super-LumiNova luminescent elements ensure optimum legibility in the dark. Several patented innovations complete these creations.
The double Audemars Piguet and Swatch logo appears on every piece. This joint signature symbolizes the meeting of two visions of Swiss watchmaking. On the one hand, a manufacture founded in 1875 in the Vallée de Joux. On the other, a brand launched in 1983 that democratized the quartz watch.
The watches will be available exclusively in selected Swatch boutiques from May 16. This limited distribution should reinforce the appeal of these novel timepieces to collectors.
With Royal Pop, the two houses prove that haute horlogerie and accessibility can coexist. This collaboration marks a turning point in the history of partnerships between Swiss manufacturers.
