The popular address of fans of animals and insects naturalized conceals curiosities. Full of educational and cultural projects. From yesterday to today, its history is written in ink with love for nature and endangered species. Invitation to the reflection on biodiversity in its most fragile aspects, this year the Deyrolle Prize draws attention to the urgency of preserving the planet. And its hosts of course.

A prize awarded to Pauline Faure

Butterfly, caterpillar, crustaceans, jellyfish, starfish… All have inspired Pauline Faure's hands and paper. If she writes? No, she sculpts. Observe, faithfully reproduce his subject. Makes the colored leaves vibrate to give them a second life: dedicated to nature. Specifically, to the animal kingdom.

Young talent from Strasbourg, this designer has just won the Deyrolle prize, in the naturalist section. A rustle of wings, a rustle of leaves. Under the nimble and determined fingers of Pauline Faure, the paper takes shape, comes to life. His works, some twenty marvels of colored paper, to be discovered, are exhibited between the picture rails of this essential Parisian institution dedicated to zoology. To be discovered until August 26th.

Biodiversity in books

Zoology and its entomology branch have been attracting young and old here for decades. A space occupying two floors is entirely dedicated to the living. In 2015, Deyrolle is an official partner of COP 21 for education. The Department Deyrolle for the future organizes activities for schoolchildren during the COP 21 and organizes exhibitions on the Pont d'Iéna and at UNESCO.

A first book, Feeding the Planet, and a second, Redrawing the World, are aimed at schoolchildren. These educational boards pose the challenges and initiatives beyond the world that try to respond.

Taxidermy in heritage

An institution, a family story. This house, unique in the world, has remained faithful to its educational vocation since its creation in 1831 by Jean-Baptiste Deyrolle. Very quickly his son Achille took over. These two entomology enthusiasts develop a prosperous business based on the sale of insectsand hunting equipment for natural history collections. They also develop the activity of taxidermist from the professional beginnings of Jean-Baptiste Deyrolle.

In 1866, Émile Deyrolle (third of the name) took up the torch. At that time, Natural History was a real success. The collection and observation of insects drains the crowds. Entomological societies were then created across Europe. From their distant travels, scientists bring back quantities of specimens that enrich the collections of natural history museums.

Plural know-how

Raising awareness of biodiversity, the planet in danger, pedagogy, cabinet of curiosities but also a platform for launching naturalist artists, Deyrolle has been able to diversify its practical work in nearly two centuries. From the sale of insects to that of animals of the savannah, through that of exceptional pieces and chimeras. Gardening equipment is added to the panoply. Émile Deyrolle will continue the activity of taxidermist

Émile Deyrolle will continue the activity of taxidermist and further develop the sale of hunting equipment, butterfly collections. The founder's grandson also devotes a large part of his activity to the publication and sale of specialized works on fauna and flora. Since 1888, it has been the favorite address for animal lovers around the world, at 46, rue du Bac. Previously it was established since 1861, right bank.

Gardener style

An entrepreneur keen on the environment, nicknamed “The Gardener Prince”, is at the origin of the eponymous brand. The collections are to be discovered on the ground floor. In 2023, they perpetuate the spirit of Louis-Albert de Broglie, creator of this brand in 1995. Gardening accessories, outdoor chairs, watering cans, buckets are now enriched with such a green clothing range.
