Le Cheap Left Bank celebrates its ninth consecutive year of openness to contemporary artistic talents by giving carte blanche to the eminent artist Daniel Buren. The artistic excitement takes place at 24, rue de Sèvres with the exhibition in two Acts entitled “Aux Beaux Carrés: in situ works”, which draws its inspiration from the emblematic square tiles of the department store's glass roofs.

In Act I, which runs from January 9 to February 18, Daniel Buren dazzles the audience with monumental works carefully arranged under the central glass roofs, on the second floor and even on the windows. The famous alternating black and white bands of 8,7 centimeters, a true signature of the artist, permeate the central escalator and the columns of the rue de Sèvres. This artistic feat is based on a subtle play of shapes, movements, colors and lights, offering a unique visual experience to visitors.

The department store is thus transformed into a space where contemporary art dialogue harmoniously with classical architecture. Buren's creations reveal an interconnection between the work and the space around it, creating a symbiosis between the artist and the iconic location.

In all confidence, Daniel Buren reserves a second act for his exceptional exhibition. From June 29 to August 15, 2024, Act II of “Aux Beaux Carrés: in situ works” promises a new artistic immersion, an extension of the unique visual experience offered by Act I. The public is invited to immerse themselves in new to the creative universe of Buren and to discover new perspectives on contemporary art.
