Prepare for the sales: our best tips to be on top

This Wednesday, January 11 marks the start of the winter sales. The perfect time to upgrade your style, with a lot of panache… To manage your budget like a pro and never end up with duplicates in the wardrobe again, we have prepared for you the 10 commandments of Parisiennes to get the best deals. Follow the leader !

-

1. Take inventory of your dressing room

Since our dressing room is already packed, we forget the Kleenex fashion and take advantage of the sales to buy beautiful pieces at bargain prices, which we would never have been able to afford otherwise. The 15th little black dress and the 3rd pair of navy blue velvet sandals, we forget! It's time for great basics that we'll keep for years, so go for a nice pair of Givenchy boots or a white Hermès shirt, a real investment. From now on, we scan our closet, we anticipate our purchases and our wallet will be grateful to us.

-

2. Identify the 10 basics you don't have

Here are the 10 essentials that any self-respecting Parisian should have in her wardrobe:

  • A navy blue blazer with gold buttons
  • A black tuxedo jacket
  • A white shirt
  • A pencil skirt
  • A beautiful round neck cashmere in nude color
  • A timeless little black dress
  • High waist raw jeans
  • A black designer sweater
  • A well-cut trench coat
  • A pussy-bow shirt

So, if you are missing one of these ten pieces, you know what to buy...

-

3. Do some scouting

All stores start preparing sales a week in advance. We then take the opportunity to try on the pieces that interest us and on D-Day, all we have to do is find them.

-

4. Don't forget e-shops

The previous rule also works for e-shops, a major shopping ally. Because online sales have many advantages: zero waiting (neither at the fitting rooms nor at the checkouts), the possibility of buying 7 days a week, 7 hours a day and the same right of withdrawal as in store if the product is not suitable. So we do our shopping in peace, sprawled on the sofa, without the crowds of Boulevard Haussmann… A must.

-

5. NEVER buy shoes or sunglasses online without trying them on first

For obvious reasons, if you fall for a pair of sandals, boots or sunglasses online, try them on in store before buying them! It will save us a lot of bad surprises...

-

6. Set a budget (and stick to it!)

You are your own banker! So we make a budget, keeping in mind that we will necessarily exceed it a little (+20%). For the biggest spenders, we only walk around with cash and we leave our credit cards at home.

-

7. Choose an appropriate outfit

That is to say, even infamous leggings. With a sweater, a shoulder bag, and sneakers. Without forgetting the T-shirt, ideal for trying on everything in the store and avoiding the queues in the cabins. Suffice to say that stilettos and other tight dresses are banned if you want to stroll freely.

-

8. Avoid missteps

Paying less for a garment that you will never wear is always too much to pay. Especially since several brands like Maje, Sandro & Claudie Pierlot already do not make any refunds in normal times, let alone during the sales. Here is the list of things to absolutely avoid:

  • believe the saleswoman
  • buy pieces that are too small, thinking that you will lose weight
  • buying shoes that are too big thinking they will fit with a sole (or too small)
  • Weird and hard-to-match colors like orange and purple that don't suit everyone

Keep in mind that just because it's trendy doesn't mean it suits you. The dictates of the newspapers, no thank you.

-

9. Don't squint at the new collection

It's extremely tempting and we all do it, but the idea is to make good deals! So we quickly pass the entrance to the store (where the new collection is often displayed) and we focus on the “sales” part. We will have plenty of time to come back and discover what's new once the sales are over...

-

10. Target the basics at the shoe level

Like Isabel Marant boots, Laurence Dacade thigh high boots, or Louboutin pumps. Sure values that we will not get tired of so soon!
