“ALAÏA / GRÈS, Beyond fashion” at the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation

In the silence of their workshops, Madame Grès and Azzedine Alaïa, like sculptors, pursued an artistic quest devoted to sewing. Mrs Sandstone, discreet and determined, has sublimated the art of draping, whileAzzedine Alaia, having studied sculpture at the School of Fine Arts of Tunis, brought his unique vision to the cut. Their common ambition has never been altered by the world of fashion, but rather magnified, placing them as pillars of fashion history.

This unpublished exhibition brings together, for the first time, the creations of Madame Grès and Azzedine Alaïa, exploring their formal principles, their research on cuts, the harmonies of fabrics and colors that they share. Evening and day dresses of these two couturiers invite the visitor to a timeless lesson beyond trends. THE 60 creations exhibited bear witness to the dialogue between Sandstone and Alaïa, two tenacious artists who have become master fashion sculptors, each in their own way.
